[China Packaging News] BPIF updated information about the UK printing industry, revealing the latest industry statistics. The report provides detailed information about the regions and segments, and reveals the importance of the printing industry in both economic and productive aspects. The effectiveness and sustainability of printing as a modern medium of communication has been emphasized.

According to the agency, Britain is the world's fifth largest producer of printed products after the United States, China, Japan and Germany, ahead of France, India and Italy.

The printing industry's turnover in 2016 was 13 billion 800 million pounds, higher than the 2014 data report of 13 billion 500 million pounds.

"There has been no inflation impact for several years," says Kyle Jardine, manager of BPIF research. "The tables are not compared every year, but they show only the latest data.". Although the printing industry turnover is declining, but printing still occupies an important position, there are many printing related work, this is a very important industry."

In 2016, there were 8400 companies in the printing industry, with about 116000 employees. Data released in 2015 showed a total of 8600 companies in 2014, with some 122000 employees.

"There has been a phenomenon of industry consolidation. In the field of traditional offset printing, new changes have taken place in digital and wide printing spaces.". Of these 8400 companies, nearly 900 enterprises operate for less than 2 years. The printing industry achieved an annual capital investment of 700 million pounds, with a total value added of 5 billion 800 million in 2016. Meanwhile, ONS's latest productivity statistics show that the industry's productivity is significantly higher than the average level of the economy as a whole. "We are a manufacturing industry that uses raw materials and transforms it into more valuable products," says Jardine.

The latest figures from BPIF also show that the average age of workers in the printing industry is now estimated at around 43, with the most common age range from 35 to 44 and about 9% of the workforce below 24.
